Southern Highlands wine among the nation’s best

Centennial Vineyards and Tertini Wines have each secured a five-star rating in the 2012 James Halliday Wine Companion, which highlights the best vineyards and drops around the country.

Meanwhile, nine other Highlands vineyards have also ranked well in this year’s Companion.

Five-star ratings are afforded to wineries that are considered outstanding and capable of producing a very high quality wine as well as at least two wines with a tasting score of 94 points or more.

A glass rating is given to each wine, with five glasses awarded to outstanding wines with a score of 94 or more out of 100, 4 glasses for a highly recommended wine and four glasses for a recommended wine.

Centennial Vineyards had two of its wines listed in the Best of the Best categories. The NV Centennial Vineyard Blanc de Blancs with a score of 95 was listed under Best of the Best Sparklings, while the 2010 Centennial Single Vineyard Reserve with a score of 95 was on the Best of the Best Chardonnay list.

Centennial also secured an impressive five-glass rating for five of its wines.

These included the Single Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay 2010 and Blanc de Blancs NV, which were awarded a score of 95 out of 100. Other five-glass wines from Centennial were the Single Vineyard Reserve Reisling 2011, the Reserve Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2010 and the Reserve Single Vineyard Shiraz Viognier 2009.

A total of 13 Centennial Vineyard wines received 4 -glass ratings, with six of these also being acknowledged as special value for money.

Tertini Wines also featured in the Best of the Best list under Sweet Reisling for its 2009 Tertini Reserve Noble Reisling, which achieved a score of 94.

A five-glass rating was given to two Tertini Wines – the Southern Highlands Pinot Noir 2009 and the Reserve Southern Highlands Noble Reisling 2009. Tertini’s Reserve Southern Highlands Reisling 2009 received four and a half glasses while the Southern Highlands Reisling 2009 was award four glasses.
