For many thinking of buying a property in the Southern Highlands the starting point for their search is Bowral. But the reality is ‘Bowral’ can mean different things to different people so for anyone looking to buy it is useful to understand the subtle location nuances that fall within the Bowral postcode.
As you search you might hear reference to an area called ‘Old Bowral’. Whilst not officially designated it covers the residential streets to the east and immediately adjacent to the Bowral town centre, tucked below Mt Gibraltar. Old South Road represents the delineation between Old Bowral and East Bowral, with Kangaloon Road the informal boundary between Old Bowral and Burradoo. As the name suggests Old Bowral is a patchwork of streets lined with a mixture of grand federation style homes and more modest, but equally charming cottages. Over recent years the Australian obsession with property and renovation has seen many of those cottages brought back to life with sympathetic renovations retaining period features but accommodating modern life. Those properties are now in very high demand and commanding very healthy prices.
However the appeal of Old Bowral extends beyond the picture perfect properties that lie within its imaginary boundaries. The area is highly sought after by families and retirees alike because of the fabulous proximity to key Southern Highlands amenities.
There is the beautiful Cherry Tree Walk which weaves its way through the streets and is a wonderful path to walk the dog or take the children for a bike ride. It’s walking distance to two of the areas premium Primary Schools and Bowral High School. It’s walking distance to Bradman Oval and the Museum. It is walking distance to the Bowral Tennis Club a football oval and a skate park. It’s walking distance to the Empire Cinema, to Bowral Hospital and the amazing selection of cafes, restaurants, galleries and shops that make up the Bowral town centre. There is a selection of residential property within the area. Small complexes of townhouse apartments are tucked unobtrusively amongst larger blocks. Opportunity certainly does still exist to purchase and add value but I’m sure you would not be surprised to learn those properties are usually fiercely contested.
