Is it just me or does anyone else think we have become a nation obsessed with cooking and home renovation shows? As one series ends another begins to feed our voracious appetite for high class home cooking and DIY.
I think it reflects two very important things relevant to real estate.
The first is the influence a ‘wow’ kitchen can have on the appeal of a property. If there is a single room in a property that can seal a deal or conversely break a deal, then it will be the kitchen. It doesn’t matter the demographic or the budget, buyers will rarely allow themselves to engage with a property until they have seen the kitchen.
Interestingly that doesn’t mean it has to be massive in size, it doesn’t even mean it has to be modern but it does need to be functional. Ideally it will have some natural light and room to ‘eat-in’.
And that brings me to the second point. DIY. I don’t meant to sound like a television show but if you are thinking of selling and the kitchen of your property is a little underwhelming then it could be worth investing a bit of money to maximise the potential of that most important room in the house.
Now DIY may not be your strength, it certainly isn’t for everyone, but if there is one thing the renovation shows have demonstrated it’s that a transformation doesn’t have to take forever and it certainly doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
The idea is to create a space potential buyers can imagine as their own Masterchef domain.
