Don’t Leave Anything Behind

Gone are the days when moving to the country meant swapping fine dining and fresh seafood for fresh air and space. Today anyone considering a move to the Southern Highlands can expect the very best in food and restaurants, not to mention access to premium local wines and fresh produce.

From Robertson to Mittagong, Exeter to Berrima and Bowral in between the Highlands has an abundance of amazing venues, stores and providores that rival any premium city destination. But in the Southern Highlands you have it all PLUS the fresh air, fabulous vistas and no traffic!

Fine dining is delivered at Biota, Bistro Officina and Onesta Cucina in Bowral, Katers Restaurant in Sutton Forest and Eschalot in Berrima. E2 and Josh’s in Berrima, Eccetera in Bowral and The Shaggy Cow and Fitzroy Inn in Mittagong offer slightly less formal dining but certainly no less delicious.

For a classy, casual lunch with a view you can try Bendooley Estate or The Burrawang Pub and the options for yummy café lunch are endless as regular readers of our ‘Spill the Beans’ column in the McKillop Magazine would know.

There is no doubt moving to any of the Southern Highlands towns, villages or picturesque properties in the countryside doesn’t mean you have to leave the good things in life behind! Indeed I recommend anyone considering moving to The Highlands take some time out from their house hunting to explore any of the Southern Highlands Food and Wine Clusters. They are a wonderful way to get some insight into the range of amazing suppliers taking advantage of the climate and countryside.

As it says on their website, and I can attest to its truth; ‘each cluster offers an authentic taste of the local lifestyle; sublime produce, historic ambience and gastronomic delights for which the region is renowned.’

So if you are thinking of your own escape to the country the only thing you will be leaving behind is the stress of city living. We live the good life down here.
