As a local it’s interesting to consider what people are seeking when they consider the Southern Highlands as their potential destination of choice. What is it that draws people to this area?
There are a couple of common answers to that question. More affordable property, a country lifestyle and close proximity to Sydney are the most obvious. Certainly The Highlands offers all of those things but look a little deeper and there are many other smaller, but equally important influencers our team highlight to those thinking of an escape to the country.
Looking at the basics we have a selection of top quality public and private schools, a good public hospital that is set to get even better as well as a range of medical specialists operating in our region.
The local retail sector is booming with general and specialist shops catering to all tastes and budgets. The $10 million revamp of Coles and the expansion of Harris Farm together with the unique charm of Springetts Arcade might make Bowral the centre but the Mittagong, Moss Vale, Robertson and Bundanoon all have their own thriving shopping precincts and community.
We have golf courses, tennis clubs, local clubs offering every code of football as well as cricket, netball, cycling and hockey. We now finally even have an indoor swimming centre!
Galleries with great art by talented local artists. Cafes with great coffee. Music and concerts and plays not to mention amazing restaurants and wine, bushwalks and natural beauty. The Highlands has it all.
I know all that sounds like I’m quoting from a tourism brochure but they’re all things that make this area so appealing not just for visitors but also for those looking to make it their permanent home.
And so it’s part of my role as a real estate agent to be a tour guide to ensure potential buyers are aware of all there is on offer. It can be very important to reassure people our community has sport, culture, facilities, food and coffee to rival any city.
Really, the only thing they will be leaving behind will be traffic stress!
